PHI BETA SIGMA FRATERNITY HAZING POLICY
§ 268H. Hazing students is prohibited:
(a) Haze defined. -- In this section "haze" means doing any act or causing any situation which recklessly or intentionally subjects a student to the risk of serious bodily injury for the purpose of initiation into a student organization of a school, college, or university.
(b) Violation constitutes misdemeanor; penalty. -- A person who hazes a student so as to cause serious bodily injury to the student at any school, college, or university is guilty of a misdemeanor and, on conviction, is subject to a fine of not more than $500, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both.
(c) Consent of student not defense. -- The implied or expressed consent of a student to hazing may not be a defense under this section.
State of Maryland Hazing Law
No chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity shall indulge in any physical abuse or undignified treatment (hazing) of its members or prospective members. Hazing is defined as: any action taken or situation created intentionally or unintentionally, whether on or off Fraternity premises, to produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment, or ridicule.
Such activities and situations include, but are not limited to:

paddling in any form

creation of excessive fatigue

physical and psychological shocks
-
quest
-
treasure hunts
-
scavenger hunts
-
road trips or any other activities carried outside the confines of the campus or chapter house
-
wearing publicly apparel which is conspicuous and not normally in good taste business and government.

engaging in any public stunts and buffoonery
-
morally degrading or humiliating games and activities
-
late work sessions (past midnight) which interfere with scholastic activity
-
any other activities which are not consistent with Fraternal Law, Ritual, or Policy or with Regulations and Policies of the educational institution
